Mindhunter TV Show

Mindhunter – netflix’s mysterious, dark and edgy true crime series. The premise of the story is set in the 1970s and it follows two FBI detectives conducting a series of interviews with convicted serial killers to understand the psychology behind murder, to understand what pushes someone enough to commit such heinous crimes, and to understand how they can recognize these same patterns in others, to stop them, before it is too late. The show starts off slow and easy, you sit back with popcorns as you see the conversations unravel. But soon, in an instant, in the next sentence of the dialogue, the atmosphere turns dark, and grim.

The season brings you face to face with evil, darkness and grim – all things you always thought you could never have anything to do with. And then you hear their stories. And you hear why they did it. And you hear what they went through. And suddenly it all makes sense, its as if all the pieces fall into place and you finally understand why people are who they are. At the surface level, it raises questions of whether it can ever be acceptable to empathize with a murderer. But at the core of it lies something disturbing and absolutely haunting – would I do the same if pushed enough? And I know anyone who reads this will say ofcourse not, well, wait till you see the show. Because all these people, with the bloods of dozens on their hands, they also never thought they could be this person.

Mindhunter is an absolute cinematic marvel – not only does it manage to deliver the story with the right amount of intrigue and horror, but it also poses deeper questions of morality, ethics and empathy. The acting is phenomenal, the emotions are so perfectly delivered that you can feel them through the scene, and the song choice tugs at all your heartstrings. The show manages to deliver a jam-packed ride in hour long episodes, one after the other, that keeps you coming back for just one more episode. Overall, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea because of its surreal undertones and subliminal messages, but if you have a knack for human psyche and the darkest of what resides inside us – you’re at the right place!
