The Irishman (2019) Review

Directed by Martin Scorsese, the movie revolves around Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran, a labour union official and hitman, who recalls his mob career in connection with the Bufalino crime family. Especially, the disappearance of his friend, Jimmy Hoffa, a famous personality as the president of International Brotherhood of Teamsters in 1975.

While the movie is not exactly of the same cloth as The Godfather or The Goodfellas, it is still a mob epic that has brought back the lost magic of gangster movies after a long time. The movie mainly focuses on the relationship between the protagonist, Frank Sheeran and his boss Jimmy Hoffa and the violence can feel a bit tamed when compared to other movies in the same g

The movie’s cast is full of legends. Both Robert De Niro and Al Pacino gave stellar performance and Joe Pesci still felt like a true mobster as he always does. One has to watch the movie to really experience just how good the performances were. That along with a superb soundtrack makes for an unforgettable experience.

The film's runtime is pretty long, to say the least and the first 30 or 40 minutes may feel slow but when Al Pacino’s Hoffa shows up, it’s all high speed from there. Overall, one of the best movies to come out in 2019 and certainly deserving to be among the list of the greatest mobster flicks.
