A young IPS officer’s new posting in rural India has him confronting caste disparities and uncomfortable truths in the face of a gruesome crime. When three girls go missing in the fictional village of Lalgaon, two of them are found dead and there is no trace of the third one. Where is she and who is responsible for this heinous act? REVIEW When Ayan Ranjan (Ayushmann Khurana), a city bred IPS officer is given charge of the Lalgaon Police Station in the heartland of India, he realises soon enough that he will have to tackle far more than meets the eye. At one point early in the film, he exasperatedly tells his wife Aditi (Isha Talwar) on the phone, “It’s like the wild wild West.” Having studied in Delhi’s St. Stephens and lived in Europe prior to this, Ayan is clearly at odds with the mindsets that accost him right from the word go at Lalgaon. Even as he is grappling with the strong presence of caste discrimination and societal inequalities looming over, he stumbles upon the news of thr

No Country for Old Men (2007) Review

Image
The movie can be called an extremely violent chase story with elements of noir. The premise and story are quite simple and straightforward with few twists. Set in 1980s, while on a hunting trip, the protagonist called Llewelyn Moss, played by Josh Brolin , finds a group of dead men along with lots of cash in the remote country side of Texas, which is the result of a drug deal gone awry . Moss’ greed makes him take the cash, but afterwards soon discovers that an outlaw named Anton Chigurh , played Javier Bardem, is tracking the cash . Meanwhile, a Texas sheriff named Ed Tom , played by Tommy Lee Jones , is searching for both Moss and Chigurh. To an extent, the movie is really about the sheriff, Ed Tom, who doesn’t really understand the drug war that has spilled over from Mexico into Texas , to him its something foreign that is making the land more hostile and dangerous. Overall, both the casting and ac ting are impressive. Especially, the performance o

RATATOUILLE

Image
This movie was realeased in 2007 as an american computer animated film which was produced by pixar and realeased by walt disney pictures. It was written and directed by Brad Bird and produced by Brad Lewis. The movie is all about a rat who wishes to become a chef and tries to achieve his goal with some restaurant's garbage boy.  It's a type of movie which i revisited when i was going through the pandemic and social distancing mode. Its a film about a rat who becomes a chef in Paris. But, if we watch this movie it's not only about becoming a chef for a rat but its more than that. It's about how a great artist can build himself up and how he can achieve his goals. It has alot of comedy that relates realistically to life, fashioned not with dozens of hilarious jokes but with proper story telling. One of the things I appreciated about this apparently food-based movie was that it offers a valuable allegory for the fate of criticism in our time. The character of the restaura

Prisoners (2013) Review

Image
Prisoners is 2013 movie directed by Denis Villeneuve about an abduction of two little girls and the subsequent events that follow in trying to find them. The plot might seem just like any other thriller movie but it is deep and multilayered that will keep the viewer s guessing all the way up until the very end. The casting and acting is simply outstanding. Hugh Jackman arguably gives one of the best performance s of his career as the father of one of the abducted girls .   Paul Dano plays his part as the primary suspect brilliantly . Jake Gyllenhaal plays the mysterious lead detective tasked with finding the girls and delivers a stellar performance. All in all, the acting of the entire cast was powerful and emotional. Denis Villeneuve has really outdone himself as t he directing in this movie is gripping and every little detail is looked after in making a small, suburban neighborhood feel as realistic as possible with a sense of dread. This is not a feel-good movie, a

Snatch (2000) Review

Image
From the director of the acclaimed "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" Guy Ritchie, Snatch is probably one of the most underrated films ever. Creative, fast paced, full of action and witty dialogues, it is a movie that never gets boring.  This makes it all the more surprising as to why not many people have seen it. The acting is stellar and cast includes the like likes of brad Pitt, Vinny Jones and Jason Statham and I must say every actor performed their roles perfectly. The story and direction are on point as well, with Guy Ritchie’s style of execution and that witty British humor.  Go and watch it if you haven’t already, I can guarantee it will you laugh more than any other movie.

Sanju (2018)

Image
In Sanju, we get the story of one of Bollywood’s eternal bad boys, Sanjay Dutt. Well, some of it, at any rate. From what we know of Dutt’s story, pieced together from lurid detail after lurid detail via gossip rags, news reports and biographies, it has been infinitely more surreal and bizarre than anything anyone could imagine. That, sooner or later, Dutt’s eye-poppingly oh-my-god-that-can’t-be-true, psychedelic life would be the subject of a film is a no-brainer, because who can resist the lure of bad boys, fast lanes, and the glamour of the film world, glittery and so did, at the same time? The challenge was always going to be: how does a mere film encapsulate this mega-film, outsize life, which is still on-going? So far, so meta. Rajkumar Hirani does the only thing he can. By making Sanjay Dutt, Sanju. By choosing to show us a child-man, full of insecurities and flaws. By making the film much more about an errant son and a loving, forgiving father, than a king-size, get-outta-my-way
