THE MACHINIST (2004)
THE MACHINIST
Plot
Christian Bale plays Trevor Reznik, a manufacturing machinist who suffers from insomnia and claims he hasn't slept in almost a year. Between jobs, he takes consolation in the arms of a prostitute, Stevie (Jennifer Jason Leigh), and enjoys late-night coffee at an airport café while speaking with a waitress, Maria. Trever fears there's a plan against him after an accident involving a coworker, as he uncovers foreboding signs and meets a mystery stranger, Ivan, who seems to hold the answers.
Christian Bale's thin and almost ghostly appearance, which he achieved by simply not eating, never ceases to astound. His world appears to be perpetually under a grey cloud that is slowly coming down on him, making him paranoid, lonely, and suspicious.
Alongside Bale the film is supported by the performances of Michael Ironside, Jennifer Jason Leigh, John Sharian and Aitana Sánchez-Gijon.
